Message from the chair

As I continue in my tenure as Chair of the Board of Governors of Exhibition Place, I remain confident that the Board of Governors and the Exhibition Place team demonstrate a solid foundation of experience and operational success in the management of this majestic 192-acre waterfront campus.

It is critical for the Board to continue to maintain Exhibition Place as Toronto's key venue for public celebration, large events, festivals, and community events, while protecting its parkland, historial assets, and core businesses.  We will ensure that the needs of our major tenants and signature public events are addressed, while capitalizing on business and developement opportunities.  Some of our major goals include the realization of new growth in the exhibition and convention markets for the award-winning Enercare Centre and new Allstream Centre; continue the provisions of excellence in customer service; strengthen Exhibition Place as a year-round destination; and ensure our continued financial success.  These are but a few of the tasks that will face us and I look forward to leading the Board's efforts in bringing positive results to each of them.

I am very excited and look forward to the opening of Hotel X in the summer of 2016.  This spectacular hotel project will provide much needed accommodation and amenties for the tens of thousands of convention and exhibition delegates that visit Exhibition Place each year.

Other new developments that came on stream in 2016 is the opening of the new BioSteel Centre on February 10, 2016 which will be the practice facility to the NBA Toronto Raptors.  As well, Toronto FC fans will experience the upgraded BMO Field with its roof covering and many new amenities to service the now 30,000 seat capacity.  BMO Field will also become home to the Toronto Argonaut Football team and the site for the 2016 Grey Cup.  I am confident that our proven ability and operational success has reinforced Exihbition Place's world-class reputation as a leading venue for business and events.

The Board and the Exhibition Place team will continue to focus on sustainability and the environment and I am pleased to report that Exhibition Place exceeded last year's Waste Diversion target and has achieved 88.20% diversion rate from landfill.  We have again been conferred the 3R Certified Plantium Status by the Recycling Council of Ontario for our achievement in this area.  Through Exhibition Place's "GREENSmart Program" we promote and encourage our partners, clients, and visitors to be part of the sustainability solution.  Exhibition Place is a signficant public asset on Toronto's waterfront and hosts over 5.3 million visitors a year.

I personally invite you to visit Exhibition Place and enjoy our year-round events, festivals, and activities.

We look forward to seeing you!
