Message from the chair

As I enter my 8th year serving on the Exhibition Place Board of Governors and continue my tenure as Chair of the Board, I look forward to the continued operational success of this majestic 192-acre waterfront campus. Between the Board of Governors and the staff at Exhibition Place, there is a solid foundation of experience with a proven track record of strong management and prosperity.

Exhibition Place has served a unique market since 1879, and that market is rapidly expanding. The needs of our tenants and signature public events have changed over the decades, and they will continue to change; we will adapt to continue to be able to meet those needs. We have taken steps to ensure that we can remain competitive in this changing market place, and will continue to make necessary changes that will allow us to host the festivals, events, and trade shows that people have come from far and wide to attend for over a century. When we are presented with the opportunity to make our venues and services better and more competitive to attract new business to Exhibition Place, we must seize those moments.

Some of our major goals include maximizing the potential of the award-winning Enercare Centre and Beanfield Centre in the ever-growing exhibition and convention markets. We aim to continue the provisions of excellence in customer service and to strengthen Exhibition Place as a year-round destination to ensure our continued financial success. These are only a few of the objectives that we intend to achieve, and I look forward to leading the Board's efforts in bringing positive results to each and every task that we take on.

With the opening of Hotel X Toronto, Exhibition Place will be able to provide accommodations to the tens of thousands of convention and exhibition delegates who visit the site each year. By providing these accommodations, we have ensured that Exhibition Place can meet all of the needs that events may have, adding to the countless reasons that make Exhibition Place an attractive location to host world-renowned events.

In recent years, we have made ourselves home to some of the biggest names in Toronto sports. As of 2016, we are home to the official practice facility of the Toronto Raptors with the Basketball Training Centre. We have the Coca-Cola Coliseum, home of the Toronto Marlies where fans can see the up and coming stars of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto FC fans and Toronto Argonauts have enjoyed an upgraded BMO Field that seats 30,000 people, played host to the 2016 Grey Cup, hosted the NHL Centennial Classic in 2017, hosted 12 games of the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup and will be one venue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. All these events have reinforced Exhibition Place as a world-class venue for large scale events.

The Board and Exhibition Place team will continue to focus on our environmental impact. I am pleased to report that Exhibition Place has been multi-award winning venue for its contribution to energy conservation and sustainability. Two of our facilities have been certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), one of the most popular green building certification programs used world-wide. We have been conferred with Certified Platinum status by the Recycling Council of Ontario for our achievement in this area. Through our adoption of the GREENSmart program we promote and encourage our partners, clients, and visitors to be part of the sustainability solution.

Exhibition Place hosts a variety of great year-round attractions where there is really something for everyone. Come and see why Exhibition Place has played host to some of our Country's most iconic events and festivals for 140 years.

We look forward to seeing you!
