A Message From the Chair

Councillor Gary Crawford – Chair, Board of Governors of Exhibition Place

As the new Chair and Mayor’s designate for the Exhibition Place Board of Governors, I am eager to bring my wealth of experience to this award-winning institution. I want to thank my predecessor, Councillor Mark Grimes, for the great work he has done in his time as Chair for the past 12 years; I am sure I have some big shoes to fill.

I am confident, with the help of the Board of Governors and the fantastic staff at Exhibition Place, these next few years will see new and exciting initiatives and a transformation that will take Canada’s largest entertainment venue to new heights.

Exhibition Place has served a unique market since 1879, and that market is rapidly expanding. The needs of our tenants and signature public events have changed over the decades, and they will continue to change; we will adapt to continue to be able to meet those needs. We have taken steps to ensure that we can remain competitive in this changing market place, and will continue to make necessary changes that will allow us to host the festivals, events, and trade shows that people have come from far and wide to attend for over a century. When we are presented with the opportunity to make our venues and services better and more competitive to attract new business to Exhibition Place, we must seize those moments.

The Board and Exhibition Place team will continue to focus on our environmental impact. I am pleased to report that Exhibition Place has been a multi-award winning venue for its contribution to energy conservation and sustainability. Two of our facilities have been certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), one of the most popular green building certification programs used world-wide. We have been conferred with Certified Platinum status by the Circular Innovation Council for our achievement in this area. Through our adoption of the GREENSmart program we promote and encourage our partners, clients, and visitors to be part of the sustainability solution. Our environmental initiatives have resulted in award-winning recognition across North America and have established Exhibition Place as a world leader in energy-efficient technologies.
