Notice - Rapid TO Priority Transit Dufferin Street
Please be advised that the City of Toronto and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) invite you to learn more and provide feedback on the opportunities to prioritize transit along 7.1 km of Dufferin Street, from Eglinton Avenue West to King Street West and King Street West to the Dufferin Street Loop.
Tens of thousands of people rely on buses (or streetcars) along this key route every day but traffic congestion slows service down. Priority bus lanes are being considered to help reduce delays and improve reliability.
On weekdays, the 29/929 Dufferin buses serve over 40,000 transit riders. Buses on Dufferin Street take 65 per cent longer than the average vehicle travel time and only 55 per cent of buses arrive on time. Priority bus lanes would improve the speed and reliability of transit service and help meet the city’s evolving transportation needs. As Toronto grows, updating roadway designs can help meet the city’s evolving transportation needs, including during major events such as FIFA World Cup 26™ (FWC26).
Specifically, between Queen Street West and King Street West the proposed design for Dufferin Street includes one curbside lane converted into a priority bus lane in each direction. Between Thornburn Avenue and Springhurst Avenue, the proposed design for Dufferin Street includes one centre lane converted into a priority transit lane for streetcar storage. Again, it is also important to note that the dedicated painted Transit Priority Lane south of King St. West is not being fully considered as this portion of Dufferin St. is shared by both TTC Busses and Streetcar routes. The proposal includes a small portion of painted roadway north of Springhurst in the southbound lane for Streetcars to wait until the Dufferin Gate Loop is free to pull into.
The proposed design considers the following changes to parking:
• Make permanent the temporary removal of 75 Green P on-street parking spots
The proposed design considers the following changes to turning and intersection signals:
• Liberty Street
o Add new advanced left-turn signal (southbound)
The links below include additional information on the proposals as well as a survey link and information on the upcoming Public Meetings in May (registration links are on the project website).

Notice - Essential Bridge Repairs as Part of Gardiner Expressway Strategic Rehabilitation Plan
Please be advised that the City of Toronto will move forward with essential bridge repairs as part of Gardiner Expressway Strategic Rehabilitation Plan
As part of the next stage of the Gardiner Expressway Strategic Rehabilitation Plan, the City of Toronto will soon begin critical repair work on five bridges to ensure they remain in a state of good repair.
• Beginning Monday, April 7, the westbound Gardiner Expressway will be reduced from four lanes to three between Park Lawn Road and Grand Avenue for approximately one year.
Rehabilitation work on Section 3 of the Gardiner Expressway, running from Highway 427 to the Humber River, is scheduled to take place from 2027 to 2031; however, five bridges in Section 3 have been identified for an advanced start following condition assessments that noted the need for critical repair.
The Ontario government will fund the replacement of the Gardiner Expressway overpasses at Park Lawn Road and Mimico Creek, and the westbound on-ramp from Park Lawn Road over Mimico Creek as part of the Ontario-Toronto New Deal. This includes a provincial commitment to upload the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway to the Ontario government, subject to a third-party due diligence assessment. The City will fund repairs to the Kipling Avenue and Islington Avenue bridges over the Gardiner Expressway.
Construction will be paused from May to July 2026 to accommodate the increased traffic anticipated during the FIFA World Cup™ and is expected to be completed by November 2026.
The City has worked to minimize traffic impacts on the Gardiner Expressway, Kipling and Islington Avenues and Park Lawn Road through a phased approach to construction as well as acceleration and congestion management measures.
The following lane and ramp restrictions are planned during phases of this project:
• April 2025 to May 2026 - Westbound Gardiner Expressway from Park Lawn Road to Grand Avenue will be reduced from four lanes to three lanes.
•
April 2025 to December 2026 - Eastbound Gardiner Expressway lanes from Grand Avenue to Park Lawn Road will be narrowed but with no lane reductions.
• April 2025 to November 2025 - Kipling Avenue and Islington Avenue will be reduced from three lanes in each direction to two lanes in each direction where they pass over the Gardiner Expressway for approximately eight months.
• November 2025 to April 2026 - There will be a full closure of the Park Lawn Road on-ramp to westbound Gardiner Expressway to replace the single-lane bridge that carries ramp traffic over Mimico Creek.
• DATES TBC - Park Lawn Road, where it passes under the Gardiner Expressway, will have single lane reductions, with three lanes maintained at all times. This work is estimated to last approximately four months with timing to be determined and communicated in advance. These lane reductions will not occur at the same time as the closure of the Park Lawn Road on-ramp to the westbound Gardiner Expressway.
This project will incorporate the same acceleration measures as the work on the Gardiner Expressway between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue, including completion incentives, enabling crews to work up to 24 hours a day seven days a week to meet the planned construction schedule.
The City will implement congestion management measures including traffic monitoring on the Gardiner Expressway and diversion routes, real-time adjustments to traffic signal timings and deploying Traffic Agents at key intersections during busy periods to help keep traffic flowing. Prior to construction starting, signage will be installed to advise motorists of the upcoming closures.
Advancing this critical project is necessary to maintain the safety and reliability of the Gardiner Expressway and will be done while balancing the needs of road users with those of residents and businesses in the nearby area.
More information on the project can be found on the City’s website: https://urldefense.com/v3/__http://www.toronto.ca/section-3-highway-427-to-humber-river__;!!KW-VMAODMJ4p!zcJb01qiTAib4S-PrgKnxYKQlZGFYKMcGfO-m37fx_OoBuIJHha3R6LRToWRTOX-S-FOktvripf5OOHbzhM$
