Sustainable Tourism

Exhibition Place signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge, joining a global movement of businesses committed to creating a sustainable future for the tourism industry.  

Road to Net Zero

Exhibition Place installed two new compactors at Beanfield Centre and signed the Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge, a global initiative to address climate change across the events and meetings industry.

Exhibition Place received four awards, including the ADL Award, two Aevitas Inc. Awards and Viking Recycling Award,

GBAC STAR™ Accreditation 

Exhibition Place was the first Convention Centre in Canada to receive the GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation, the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation for facilities. GBAC STAR is the gold standard of prepared facilities.

LEED® Platinum Certification

Enercare Centre achieved re-certification at the Platinum level. The LEED is an internationally recognized rating system for evaluating the sustainability of building design, construction and operations. LEED certified buildings incorporate leading-edge features that protect the environment and promote healthy working and living conditions. 

Silver Award for 3R Certification

Exhibition Place was awarded the Silver Award for 3R Certification. Recognizing excellence in waste reduction and diversion, this certification program is designed for properties in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional sector and assesses and verifies operational solid waste reduction and diversion. 

Urban Rooftop Beehives

Exhibition Place installed two urban beehives that produce 20kg of honey per harvest right here at Enercare Centre.

Enercare Centre LED Lighting Retrofit 

Installation of the 165w Smart Control LED’s were completed in Enercare Centre. Power reduction from 1,000w to 165w resulted in an annual CO2 reduction of 571 tons, which is equivalent to 101 typical households’ emissions per year.

Platinum Award and LEED® Gold Certification

Enercare Centre received LEED Gold Certification, LEED certified buildings incorporate leading-edge features that protect the environment and promote healthy working and living conditions.

Exhibition Place received Platinum Award for 3R Certification, recognizing excellence in waste reduction and diversion.

Installed Back Pressure Steam Turbine

The back pressure steam turbine uses waste heat in the form of steam to generate electricity. As a result, Exhibition Place can decrease its reliance on the electrical grid. 

Allstream Centre LEED Silver Certification

Allstream Centre combined state-of-the art technology with environmental responsibility and sustainability and was built according to LEED Silver Standards. LEED is an internationally recognized system for evaluating the sustainability of building design, construction and operations. 

Installed a Cold Roof and a Green Roof

Installed a Green Roof on Enercare Centre and a Cool Roof on Horse Palace. Exhibition Place also received the BOMA Certificate and adopted the Smart Commute Action Plan.

Installed Green Living Wall

Installed a Green Living Wall at Enercare Centre which is a self-sustaining, natural ecosystem purifying indoor air.

Installed Beanfield Centre Rainwater Collection System

Beanfield Centre Rainwater Collection system harvests rainwater to use to flush the toilets and urinals in the building. 

Installed Geothermal project at Press Building

Exhibition Place was awarded the Platinum Award for Facility Management from the Recycling Council of Ontario and the Geothermal Project replaced the HVAC System at Beanfield Centre. Annual electricity use was reduced by 44% and natural gas by 98%.

Installed Solar PVs on The Horse Palace

Installed the largest Canadian solar photovoltaic roofs on The Horse Palace. When first installed in 2006, The Horse Palace East 100 kW solar PV was the largest single installation of its kind in Canada. 

Certificate of Building Excellence

Enercare Centre received BOMA Certificate of Excellence Award, an award that signifies facility expertise in the areas of building management, operations, environmental management, design, tenant and community relations, and tenant satisfaction.

Installed the first City-Sited Wind Turbine

Installed the first city-sited wind turbine in North America and Enercare Centre was awarded the Prime Site Award, an award presented based on facility excellence.
