Exhibition Place implementing a mandatory vaccination policy for staff and contractors
Exhibition Place today announced that it will be implementing a mandatory vaccination policy for its staff and contractors. Applying a workplace vaccination policy fulfils our health and safety legislative obligation while taking appropriate measures to mitigate employee exposure to COVID-19.
Exhibition Place will be following the timelines set out by the City of Toronto which include:
- All Exhibition Place staff will be required to disclose and provide proof of their vaccination status by September 13. Details on this request will be shared in the coming days. Staff who have not been vaccinated or who do not disclose their vaccination status by September 13, 2021 will be required to attend mandatory education on the benefits of vaccination. Unvaccinated staff will then need to provide proof of first dose no later than September 30.
- As of October 30, 2021, it will be mandatory for all staff to have received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Exhibition Place will comply with its human rights obligations and accommodate employees who are legally entitled to accommodation.
“It is clear, vaccines work to save lives. Achieving a high rate of vaccination within our workplace supports our community and remains one of the most important tools we have available today. Further, as the country’s preeminent convention centre mandatory vaccination will also contribute to consumer confidence for our Meetings and Exhibitions clients and which will allow us to move towards an industry recovery much sooner.” said Don Boyle, Exhibition Place, Chief Executive Officer.
Toronto Public Heath recently reported that since May 1, 2021, 98.7 per cent of hospitalized COVID-19 cases with known vaccination status were not fully vaccinated.
Throughout the pandemic, Exhibition Place has been committed to providing a safe environment for our employees, clients, tenants, and the visiting public. Vaccinations are a critical step in maintaining this commitment and, more pressing, serving the significant public health interests of our broader community.
Our Exhibition Place Leadership Team see this as a moral obligation, not just a legislative duty. We are all fully vaccinated and intend to lead by example.
